Product Description

Clarksdale Day Tour from Memphis:
$172.50 per person min 2 (adult or child).

Clarksdale, located at the intersection of Highways 61 and 49 (“the crossroads”), and the surrounding Delta region are known as ”the land where the blues began”. From the 30’s on through the 50’s Clarksdale was a major blues town. John Lee Hooker, Ike Turner, Little Junior Parker and Sam Cooke were born here, and the great Muddy Waters grew up and first recorded here. Robert Nighthawk, Bukka White, “Gatemouth” Moore, Eddie Boyd, Son House, and Charley Patton all once lived in the area. Clarksdale became the center of the blues world by virtue of its location smack in the middle of the Delta and Delta blues still come from this source.  Today, Clarksdale enjoys live blues shows 365 nights per year plus over a dozen music festivals.  Tour begins with hotel pick-up at 9:00 am.  Return to Memphis and your hotel by 3:30 pm.

Places you will visit:

  • Delta Blues Museum:  is dedicated to creating a welcoming place where visitors find meaning, value, and perspective by exploring the history and heritage of the unique American musical art form of the blues.  Since its creation, the Delta Blues Museum has preserved, interpreted, and encouraged a deep interest in the story of the blues. The Delta Blues Museum is housed in the historic Clarksdale freight depot, built in 1918 for the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad. The former freight area and the adjacent Muddy Waters expansion – about seven thousand square feet of ground floor space – is devoted to permanent and traveling exhibits.
  • Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art:  is your blues music headquarters and your first stop in the Delta for blues CDs, DVDs, books, magazines, t-shirts and artwork. It’s kind of like shopping in a juke joint.  Called “One of the 17 Coolest Record Stores in America” by Paste Magazine, Cat Head received the “Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA)” award for music retail in 2008 and was recently included in the updated edition of the book “1000 Places to See Before You Die.”
  • “The Crossroads”, the intersection of Highways 61 and 49, where legend has it that the most famous blues-man of all, Robert Johnson, made a pact with the devil. Blues-men who knew Johnson were all astounded at how quickly he learned the guitar, and Johnson himself often claimed his extraordinary prowess as a “gift” from the devil.
  • Ground Zero Blues Club Restaurant, owned by the famous actor, Morgan Freeman & is a replica of a “juke joint”.  (Meal not included)
